We worship Shailputri on the First Day of Navratri, She is also known as Parvati, the daughter of Parvat Raaj (God of Mountains) Himalaya, and the wife of Lord Shiva. Daksha insulted Shiva during a grand Yagna, which led to Sati's self-immolation in grief. Shiva, in his anger, invoked Veerbhadra to destroy Daksha. Sati's body parts became the Shakti Peethas, and in her next birth, she was born as Shailputri, married to Lord Shiva, and depicted riding a bull (Nandi) while holding a trident and lotus
